Mem Memoirs: Issue 2 — Relationships
The “Mem Memoirs” booklet is a product of the oral history project of Masahat for Sexual and Gender Diversity in Egypt and Sudan, recording stories of the lived, human experiences of LGBTQ+ people from many governorates across Egypt. Throughout its series it shines a light on marginalised groups within the community (lesbians, trans women, bisexual and pansexual people, non-binary and genderfluid people) and creates a space for their voices to be heard in public.
One of the foundations life is built on is the ties we weave between ourselves and everything around us, from the people and things that surround us to the deepest points of our bodies and selves. Many call these ties relationships: long straight lines that begin with us and end at someone or something else.
The second issue of Mem Memoirs explores relationships from different perspectives, drawn from the many experiences of LGBTQIA+ people. It focuses on the stories of different groups within the community and their relationships with their societies, their families and their bodies, including how those relationships have shaped them, for better and for worse.
