Mem Memoirs: Issue 6 — Spirituality

Spirituality is an essential part of every human being. Even as people’s beliefs and practices differ, its influence on the self matters deeply, and exploring it is a fundamental stage of our lives, because it intersects with every other part of our lives and shapes many facets of our identities. As a queer collective, our community shares with wider society the fact that we are people of many intersections. Despite attempts to define our existence by confining us to our queer identities alone, those identities are only one part of a deeper mix of elements that shape us as individuals, whether beliefs, practices, interests or more.

Because we at Masahat believe in the value of documenting the varied experiences of people within queer communities, in the sixth issue of the Mem Memoirs series we set out to explore one of the elements that make up that deep mix of our identities as non-normative people: spirituality, given its influence on people’s lives in general, and on our journeys with sexual and gender diversity within conservative religious societies in particular.

Because we’re in this together
